General

What is Fractions Calculator?

Fractions Calculator is a native Apple app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that makes fraction arithmetic fast, clear, and easy. It handles addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions and mixed numbers, shows step-by-step working, and can convert fractions to decimals or percentages.

Which devices does it support?

Fractions Calculator runs on:

  • iPhone — iOS 16.0 or later
  • iPad — iPadOS 16.0 or later
  • Mac — macOS 13 Ventura or later (Apple Silicon and Intel)
Is there a free version?

Yes. You can download Fractions Calculator for free and use core features — entering fractions and performing all four arithmetic operations — at no cost. Advanced features such as step-by-step solutions, conversion tools, and iCloud history sync are available via a one-time in-app purchase or a subscription.

Is Fractions Calculator a one-time purchase or a subscription?

Both options are available. You can unlock all features permanently with a one-time purchase, or choose a monthly or annual subscription — whichever suits you better. Subscriptions include all future feature updates for as long as the subscription is active.

Does the app work offline?

Yes — all calculations are performed entirely on your device. No internet connection is required. iCloud History Sync requires connectivity when syncing to other devices, but the app itself functions fully offline.

Purchases & Subscriptions

How do I restore a previous purchase?

If you've already purchased the app or an upgrade, you can restore it at no charge:

  • Open the app and go to Settings → Restore Purchases.
  • Sign in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
  • Your purchase will be restored within a few seconds.

Alternatively, App Store purchases are automatically restored when you install the app on a new device signed in with the same Apple ID.

Can I use the app on multiple devices with one purchase?

Yes. A one-time purchase or active subscription is tied to your Apple ID and can be used on all devices signed in with that account — iPhone, iPad, and Mac — at no extra cost. This is handled automatically by the App Store.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. To cancel:

  • On iPhone or iPad: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions, find Fractions Calculator, and tap Cancel Subscription.
  • On Mac: App Store → [Your Name] → View Information → Manage Subscriptions.

You'll continue to have access to premium features until the end of the current billing period.

Can I get a refund?

All purchases are processed by Apple. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com and follow Apple's refund process. We are unable to issue refunds directly, but Apple's team will review your request.

Using the App

How do I enter a mixed number like 2 ¾?

To enter a mixed number:

  • Type the whole number part (e.g., 2).
  • Tap the Mixed button on the keypad.
  • Enter the numerator (3) and denominator (4) of the fractional part.

See the Mixed Numbers section of the User Guide for full details.

Why is my result automatically simplified?

Auto-Simplify is turned on by default — results are always shown in their lowest terms (e.g., ²⁄₄ becomes ½). You can turn this off in Settings → Auto-Simplify if you want to see the raw result before simplification.

How do I convert a fraction to a decimal or percentage?

After calculating a result (or entering a single fraction), tap the = Dec button to see the decimal equivalent, or the % button for the percentage. The converted value appears in the result area and is also saved to history.

Can I enter a fraction with a denominator of zero?

No — division by zero is mathematically undefined. If you attempt to enter a fraction with a denominator of 0, the app will show an error and prompt you to correct it before calculating.

Is there a limit to how large the numbers can be?

Fractions Calculator supports very large numerators and denominators (up to 15 digits each). For most educational and practical uses this is more than sufficient. If your result exceeds this range, the app will display an overflow warning.

History & iCloud Sync

My history isn't syncing between my iPhone and Mac. What should I do?

Try the following steps:

  • Make sure both devices are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  • Check that iCloud Drive is enabled on both devices (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive).
  • Confirm that iCloud Sync is turned on in the app's Settings on both devices.
  • Ensure both devices have an active internet connection.
  • Try force-quitting and reopening the app on both devices.

If the issue persists, contact support and we'll help you resolve it.

How do I clear my calculation history?

Open the History panel (tap the clock icon in the toolbar), then tap Clear All in the top-right corner. You'll be asked to confirm before anything is deleted. To delete a single entry, swipe left on it and tap Delete.

Can I export my history?

Yes. On Mac, go to File → Export… and choose CSV or PDF format. On iPhone and iPad, open the History panel, tap the Share button, and choose your preferred format and destination.

Troubleshooting

The app crashed or isn't opening. What should I do?
  • Force-quit and reopen — swipe up from the home bar (iPhone/iPad) or use the Dock on Mac to quit, then relaunch.
  • Restart your device — this resolves most transient issues.
  • Check for updates — make sure you have the latest version from the App Store.
  • Re-install the app — your history is stored in iCloud and will be restored automatically.

If the problem continues, please contact us with details of what you were doing when the crash occurred.

The step-by-step panel isn't appearing. How do I enable it?

Step-by-step solutions are a premium feature. Make sure you have an active subscription or have completed the one-time unlock purchase. You can check your purchase status in Settings → Purchases. If you believe you've already purchased it, try Settings → Restore Purchases.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

We love hearing from users! Use the Support page to send us a bug report or feature request. Please include as much detail as possible — what you were doing, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened. Screenshots are very helpful.
